Thermal Dispersion Flow Switches

Thermal flow switches are designed to detect and monitor fluid and gaseous flow within industrial processes. They employ two temperature-sensitive sensors—typically resistance temperature detectors (RTDs)—where one sensor is heated while the other measures the ambient fluid temperature. The presence or absence of fluid flow affects heat transfer away from the heated sensor, resulting in temperature changes that trigger electronic switching mechanisms based on predetermined setpoints.

The key advantages of thermal flow switches lie in their sensitivity and reliability in detecting low flow rates or no-flow conditions without any moving parts, minimizing maintenance and enhancing longevity. Their robust, solid-state construction makes them highly resistant to mechanical wear, corrosion, vibration, and clogging, providing dependable performance even in challenging process environments. Additionally, their compact design facilitates easy installation and minimal interference with the process flow path.

Thermal flow switches are widely used across numerous industries, including chemical processing, water and wastewater treatment, pharmaceutical manufacturing, HVAC systems, oil and gas production, food and beverage processing, and power generation. Typical applications include pump protection to prevent dry-running, flow verification in coolant and lubrication systems, monitoring fluid circulation in heat exchangers, leak detection, and ensuring adequate flow in critical process pipelines.

Engineered for reliability and accuracy, thermal flow switches often feature durable, corrosion-resistant materials, customizable setpoints, and suitability for hazardous area installations, making them indispensable tools for maintaining safe, efficient, and uninterrupted industrial operations.
