Threaded Thermowells to Protect Sensors
Threaded thermowells are precision-engineered protective fittings designed to shield temperature sensors, such as thermocouples and RTDs, from extreme pressures, aggressive chemicals, abrasive media, and turbulent flow conditions in industrial process environments. Constructed typically from robust materials like stainless steel, carbon steel, Inconel, Hastelloy, or Monel, threaded thermowells are specifically suited for applications where ease of installation and removal are critical.
These thermowells feature a threaded connection, allowing direct and secure mounting into tapped holes on pipes, vessels, or process equipment. Threaded thermowells are ideal for smaller-diameter lines and lower-pressure applications and are often used in industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and power generation. The threaded design provides a reliable pressure-tight seal, ensuring sensor integrity and accuracy.
Standard thread connections include NPT (National Pipe Thread) or BSP (British Standard Pipe) configurations. Available in various profiles—including straight, stepped, or tapered designs—threaded thermowells can withstand rigorous thermal and mechanical stresses while facilitating easy sensor inspection or replacement, thus minimizing process downtime and enhancing operational safety and reliability.
