Thermowells Protect Sensors

In industrial process control, thermowells are robust, tube-like fittings designed to protect temperature sensors such as thermocouples, RTDs, and thermometers from harsh environmental conditions, including high pressures, rapid fluid flow, corrosion, and abrasive media. Thermowells allow sensors to be installed directly into the process flow without exposure to the medium itself, facilitating easier sensor maintenance or replacement without interrupting the process.

Constructed from materials like stainless steel, carbon steel, Hastelloy, Monel, or Inconel, thermowells provide superior corrosion resistance and mechanical strength suited to specific process conditions. Key design factors include insertion length, bore size, wall thickness, process connection type (flanged, threaded, or weld-in), and tip configuration (straight, tapered, or stepped).
